Observation details
****MEGA. Juvenile, first picked out by JWM on the shoal of Carl's Island as it flew up and circled around with a Baird's, giving distinctive calls, lower and more querulous than SEPL; immediately suspected to be CRPL. Tracked down on shore a few minutes after as it landed then moved to forage with other shorebirds including SEPL, and thankfully still present as Drew and Larry backtracked to join. Side by side noticeably larger and bulkier than Semipalmated, with obviously broken, bulging dark breast band, bright supercilium, dark lores with no white wedge at gape, frosty edged crown and breast, and dark (invisible) orbital ring. Overall not obvious, but continued to call occasionally. Still present when we left well after dusk, foraging with SEPL on south shore of shoal on west side of island. Theoretically scopable from the outlet mouth, probably not identifiable from there. If it remains at this location, boat access is probably the best option for relocation.
