Observation details
(Rare) Photo and recording. Found on an island in the Broads, about here: 43.679114,-121.734716 First heard thanks to the good acoustics of the channel, then watched four plump black and white sandpipers sneak around out to view. But one stayed put, unperturbed by me as I drifted slowly right up next to it, offering ridiculous eye level views from the kayak, too close for bins practically. Likely the first human the little guy has ever seen since being born on Ellesmere? Was so cool I didn't notice for a good 5 minutes the stench from a dead pelican nearby. As I paddled around the area I found a pair working the south shore, and then what I think is the same friendly juvenile land right in front of me, calling, allowing the recording. It joined up with six more birds in front of me, for a total seen of 9. Very few shorebirds around otherwise. But nice to find a new county bird!
