Observation details
absolutely amazing encounter with this species, my best ever, male flushed from the side of the ridge line track with a flurry of wing beats, seen at 415m elevation by the corner with Rodney Track, amazing views as a male flew up into Red Stringybarks where it stayed in the general area for more than 5 minutes, called quietly (up and down whistling) most of the time, a poor record quality video, photo and recording of call obtained, at times the call sounded very far but the bird was only a few metres away, perfect habitat here for this species along a ridge line with fallen timer, rocks, native grasses and leaf litter, also very high pitched peep-peep calls heard a little further away, likely the female of a pair?
