Observation details
Ashy colored and short-billed Empidonax. A Pacific-slope Flycatcher nearby for comparison of bill length and color. White eye ring not strongly extended to rear, and not forming classic almond shape. There is a hint of darkness on the chest adjacent to the scapulars, greater and lesser coverts constrasting with paler center of chest, and forming a vague vest. Short-bill giving the appearance of large head. Maxilla dark, mandible pale. Primary projection beyond undertail coverts and extending into basal portion of tail. Spacing of exposed primary tips -- ultimate tip barely exceeds the previous -- suggests Dusky Flycatcher. The rounded head lends additional support to this as a Dusky Flycatcher.
