Media notes
Calls of a juvenile Hooded Grosbeak (begging?) while foraging in mixed coniferous-deciduous forest at 2200m. A Yellow-eyed Junco singing in background. Recorded using a Sony PCM-M10 with a Sennheiser ME67 with a K6 power module & foam windscreen.
Observation details
Strong song briefly, but not recorded; some weak song recorded and attached; regular calling, and also begging. At least two family groups of three, and two other males, perhaps more, heard. South of Mesa Arturo in relatively mesic canyon of coniferous/deciduous forest with alders at 2200m; feeding on green berries on short (under 1m) bushes in draws. The juveniles were giving a burry begging call (presumed) and were able to feed on their own, but also begging with quivering wings and receiving objects from adults. All in one small area, where conspicuous in the early afternoon, but on return at 5 p.m. on breezy afternoon, we detected nothing of these, or anything else.
