Observation details
The bird was reportedly found floating and struggling in the Munambam backwaters yesterday morning by a local fisherman and the bird readily climbed in to the country canoe. The bird was seen tired and wet but not afraid of the human presence. The Forest department was contacted and the officials entrusted the fisherman to look after the bird. By the second day the bird regained some strength and as we arrived, it was energetic and took food several times from the fisherman. The feathers were dry and clean and the bird defecated whitish poop in liquid consistency several times. The web on the right foot was torn but showed the signs of regeneration. The left eye had a slight swelling which was visible when the lower membrane was raised. Both the wings were closely held and was crossing each other when the wings were raised.
