Observation details
County first. Digiscoped images. Juvenile based upon prominent pale edges on back feathers. Slightly smaller than killdeer. Uniform pale buff breast and face with prominent dark eye. Yellow legs. Classic head bobbing high stepping gait as it fed. Yellow legs. Upper parts warm brown with prominent pale edges on back feathers. Remarkably this bird was feeding with a BAIRDS sandpiper!! The only two birds feeding together for fifteen minutes before they were joined by some leasts. To view this bird (not visible from road) please do not drive into sod farm. Please park on the left immedately after driving through the gates of Ft McCoy Farms. You may need to walk a mile round trip to see it. Both the buffie and the bairds were due south of the far west end of the sprinklers. I could not see either bird from the dirt access road. Walk alll the way to the farm buildings and ask staff permission to walk the muddy track that leads north from the buildings. About 200 yards down this track there is a narrow water filled ditch leading due east. Both birds were feeding in the taller grassed field on the south side of this ditch.
