Observation details
Upon arrival at the parking lot, a Great-tail Grackle was foraging on the lawn directly in front of the parking lot. After about 20 minutes, we noticed a smaller Grackle on the lawn to the east of us. Walking closer to that area we able to see that the bird was a Common Grackle. The bird was smaller than the GT Grackle, particularly the length of the tail. Rather than being all dark in color, this bird had a dark purplish head, which contrasted with a rusty body. The bird foraged the lawn for a few minutes, flew into a bush on the edge of the lawn, then flew east over the adjacent willows. Photo obtained.
