Observation details
Exact count, truly remarkable numbers moving down the Hudson River in the wake of Tropical Storm Henri. This was one of the most visible and dramatic effects of the storm system in our region. Traveling in groups of 2 to 12, mostly moving down the far western shore but some passing quite close. The first passage was noted at 8:28, with the last observed just before closing the checklist at around 12:15. Gargantuan terns with hefty red bills, showing notched tails and dark under primaries. Some heard vocalizing with harsh, otherworldly shrieks, also observed several begging juveniles following their parents
