Observation details
Juvenile. Banded and color-marked with red on forehead and cheeks. From the internet I found out that a colony of Elegant Terns in Long Beach on a couple of floating barges had been the subject of rehab efforts due to a large number of hatchlings falling off into the water. Several hundred hatchlings were raised for various amounts of time in captivity and then released at the colony. I don't know how long this particular bird was in captivity, or if that affects it's "countability" as a wild bird. The releases took place at Long Beach, so this bird at least made it to Mystic Lake on its own.
