Observation details
Migrants. Five were foraging on rocks to the west of where we walked north onto the dried out portion of the lake directly north of where we parked the vehicle on Range Rd. 2293. A flock of thirty-four were seen and photographed by Brian. Brian noticed that two of these birds 'fell' from the flock to the ground. One landed on its feet, and was able to fly away after a few minutes. The other landed on it's back and appeared to be dead. Chris and Brian watched this second sandpiper for about five minutes where it was eventually able to turn over, recovering enough to fly off. Our speculation was that these two birds must have collided while flying in the flock of sandpipers causing them to be stunned thus falling to the ground.
