Observation details
VERY RARE. First time we've observed this species at this location. The bird flew all the way into the mouth of the river where we were able to scrutinize it in flight and while it sat on the water. Small billed, round-headed, dark dorsally, more gray ventrally, elegant flyer despite little to no wind. SOSH are bigger bodied, longer winged and generally more ungainly landing and taking off from water, especially in calm conditions. The bird was in view for well over an hour.
