Media notes
Calling from about 8-10 feet away, on a branch just over my head. Incredibly tame and friendly bird (possible intentional release), called for about 5 minutes at a time, with about 15-20 minute pauses between bouts of calling. Heard throughout duration of time in meadow area.
Observation details
Continuing bird. My first Northern Bobwhite! Heard first near entrance to Wildflower trail, but eventually realized it was closer to the Kinder Road side of the meadow. I went over there on the path and stood in the shade under a tree on the far side of the path near where I thought it had sounded like it was located. After about 15 minutes, as I was about to leave, amazingly I heard it from a branch literally just over my head. Several recordings made and pictures taken. It was only about 8 feet from me. I've never been so close to a wild bird for so long. It was the friendliest bird I've ever encountered. What an amazing experience! Was located on the paved path on the Kinder Road side of the Wildflower Trail meadow, in a tree a little past mile marker 0.8 (going from the parking lot). It's friendly behavior probably indicates that it was raised by humans (possibly an intentional release?), so I don't know if it's a countable bird, but regardless, it was a joy to spend some time with it and hear it from only a few feet away!
