Observation details
First heard in cattails and marsh grasses (along edge of lake at end nearest to second pond area) giving "chek" calls. Thought red-winged blackbird at first but they haven't been around for a few weeks. Eventually spotted shaking reeds and was able to see the wren though it stayed in cover throughout my observation. Behaved furtively, quickly hopping from stalk to stalk through the area with brief stops to call and peer out of the grasses. Plumage appeared fresh and sharp! Observed a small, dark wren with dark cap and back, bright white supercilium, white stripes along the mantle, distinct black bars along the tail, rufous in the wings and a warm ruddy buff along the flanks. Recorded calls.
