Observation details
Gave at least two fairly long high-pitched "toot" vocalizations (at about 1.2 kHz) in response to playback. We didn't mark the exact location because we're idiots, but it was along the Clingmans Dome Rd. somewhere between the Road Prong trailhead and the Collins Gap overlook. I am 100% sure we were on the NC side though, as there was a high ridge in front of us when looking toward TN. The bird itself was in the direction of Tennessee, but I don't think we'd have been able to hear it if it was all the way over on the other side of the ridgetop, so it was probably in NC as well.
