Observation details
*RARE* first seen in flight, crossing open center of Fort Hale Park, heading toward tree line along beach; landed there and was seen by all members of class over about a 20 minute period; in flight instantly recognized as a dove with large white wing patches contrasting with dark flight feathers; while perched the edges of the white patches were obvious running horizontally along the sides at the bottom of the folded wing; also noted were red eye; blue orbital ring; short tail compared to Mourning Doves, with which it sat at times; and lack of black spots on folded wings; photos by at least two class members
