Observation details
Never common on Vancouver Island, but a little surprising to find this species so early during fall migration. One juvenile (buffy edges on coverts and tertials) and one adult (smooth brown above). Small swallows with slender structure. Brown above, white underparts, bold brown breast-band which broadens to form a V on the chest centre, and white throat wrapping behind dark auriculars. Distinctive raspy flight calls heard several times from large mixed swallow flock foraging low over the flats.
