Observation details
At first I saw it at the edge of the mudflats In the southwest side of the island. Extremely surprised to see one here in July! With black bellied plovers. Slightly larger than them , long bicolored upturned bill ,no Buffy or cinnamon tones like marbled godwits. White supercilium, brownish streaked back. Almost white belly. Later when the tide came in, the shorebirds flew over the rocks to the channel across from the naval area and were feeding on the mudflats on the west side of the channel. It was with the plovers and about 15 Whimbrels. David P. And Steve P. Joined me and confirmed the sighting. Photos- very distant and back lit but shows the salient points. Bar tailed godwits have been seen on jetty island but usually in late August.
