Observation details
At least two young birds are hissing near the nest, moving mid-story through the conifers somewhat clumsy. The nest is quite large, about 70 to 80 cm in diameter about 12 m up in a Douglas fir. Feathers litter the rim of the nest. The young are surprisingly big and bulky that I initially considered northern Goshawk but on subsequent visits to this nest, I was able to see the birds in better light and could see the buffy brown wash of the head and nape consistent with COHA.
