Observation details
I was in the middle of a ploughed field when out of the blue I was left utterly gobsmacked! A White-tailed Plover (Vanellus leucurus) alighted just 10m from the car! I know the bird from Azerbaijan but have never seen it Bulgaria. Fortunately for me a case of the right time at the right place - near the camp site at Durankulak Lake, Coastal Dobrogea region. To the best of my knowledge, this is the third documented record of White-tailed Plover for Bulgaria. The bird refuelled for around one week in the area then headed north. A couple of weeks later several WTP have been recorded in the Danube Delta in Romania.
