Media notes
Dark scaly back, black bill short, pale legs, buffy neck, unmarked breast.
Observation details
originally misidentified as a Pectoral due to size (approximately equal to Solitary Sandpiper in photo) and short, drooped bill, then due to dark beak and dull legs as a White-rumped Sandpiper. However the plumage was more buffy with an unmarked chest, scaly back with long dark tertials does not fit Calidris, and seemed pale around the base of the bill like a juvenile Ruff. The bill was heavier and more drooped than a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, and the sides lacked any dark spots. Also the eye does not appear to have a ring. I consulted Sibley guide and a few online sites.
