Observation details
Location: about 0.45 mi. up the road, on the road, not the wedge dirt trail, toward the Trailhead from Timberline Rd., on the left, south side. Heard, to me, this very unique drumming sound and climbed up the bank but never saw it, 15+ minutes! It was drumming its irregular sequence about twice a minute as long as I was there. Recorded the drumming sound on Cornell Merlin that Id'd it as Red-naped Sapsucker (RNSA). I went through all of the regional Woodpeckers on Cornell Lab for drumming sounds and RNSA was by far the closest match. From eBird RNSA, “Listen for irregular drumming (like morse code).” Two recordings, from my phone, first from using Merlin to record the drumming then Voice Recorder, from the same spot a few minutes apart.
