Observation details
I was on the small trail that leads into the tundra from the Medicine Bow Curve parking area. Another birder first spotted a male walking uphill toward us. He began running and then flew a couple hundred yards up the hill behind us. Soon a female appeared down the slope. She walked right past us maybe 10 feet away. Then we saw two males chasing each other and a female up the slope at the top of the ridge. One of these males dug up a female from somewhere on the slope. They wandered up the hill and disappeared. The other male wandered down toward us and joined the female that had passed us. She had been waiting patiently, huddled next to a rock. For the next 45 minutes, that pair wandered around the area picking at the ground or sat still, all within about 20 yards of where I stood.
