Observation details
What a kick it was to turn down the road to Murdunna and IMMEDIATELY spot the pale, brutish form of the Night Heron sitting right out in the open at the edge of its favourite Cypress!! I leapt out of the car, camera in tow, knowing full well that this was a very rare opportunity to bag my best ever Night Heron shots... and what a photoshoot it was!!! The bird squinted balefully at me with those big, yellow eyes, looking head-on at me... but then a car on the road made a strange noise, and it instantly whipped around to stare off at the sound, casting its face in the perfect sunlight!! The gradient of the chestnut back and creamy front... that incredibly stout weapon of a bill... the almost reptilian look to its eyes... there's no denying that the Night Heron is one of Tasmania's strangest yet most wonderful characters!!
