Documentation photo of Black Tern at the Lincoln Park Gravel Pits found by Roger Johnson
Observation details
Found earlier by Roger Johnson - a solid Morris County bird of the year candidate. Gray upper wings, lighter gray under wings. Dark vertical smudge behind the head at the base of the forewing. Dark mark behind the eye; grayish upper flank. Excellent scope view, too distant for photos with the current lens that I have. Smallish tern; constant flight, very acrobatic, dips and dives. The tern is viewable from the southern tip of the berm and was keeping to the west south west of the island. A scope is necessary. This is the seventh known record of this species in Morris County.
