Observation details
Back in the “traditional” spot where this species has occurred in this past! Parked at the backcountry trailhead on Recreation Dr and this BTSP was the first bird I heard singing below the road in a rocky sagebrush ravine. Came right up the road in response to pishing, very distinct/ bold black and white face markings on this sparrow. Just the one BTSP but it is being very territorial singing and calling as though on breeding territory. Will be interesting to see if others turn up nearby. Many photos and audio of song.
