Observation details
Found this morning by Laura Brou. Large Calidris sandpiper with long wings giving a profile similar to Baird's Sandpiper though the 'shoulder' area seemed a bit blockier and legs seemed longer. Color was generally dull gray-brown above with scapulars having a slightly redder tint. Bill medium length for Calidris and slightly drooped, dark with red-orange color at the base. Breast densely and finely streaked though throat appeared mostly plain. The streaking stopped abruptly changing to an unmarked white belly - similar pattern to a Pectoral Sandpiper but streaking was finer. Several dark streaks on the flanks seen many times though they were not obvious most of the time and had to be looked for specifically most of the time I was watching it. Mainly spent its time foraging slowly around the open muddy area, though at one point a nearby Killdeer ran at it which caused it to fly right past me. It was calling a lot giving its extremely high pitched insect-like call and the fully white rump was seen well as it circled the marsh. It then landed and spent awhile preening.
