Observation details
Male in breeding plumage. Photos to follow. To find him, these are directions if one parks at the top of pool 14. It is about a 2.5 mile hike this way but straight shot heading west. Go through the brown gates and then start going down the hill such that the cottonwood trees will be to one’s lefthand side. Hike through the dry field that has not yet been planted. Will eventually have to cross the distributing channel. The lowest point came up to my knees so mud boots are advisable. At this point, will need to hike through the recently planted soybean fields. To the right will be two small mudflat regions with very shallow water. Listen for the Killdeer as the male Ruddy Turnstone is hanging out with them. The Ruddy Turnstone may also vocalize. They will be in one of these mudflat/shallow water regions.
