Observation details
This mystery bird turned out to be a Northern Bobwhite. Also heard "Bob-white" song on AudioMoth recordings placed at this location. They are raised at a nearby farm and I heard the song in the same area last summer. Finally saw the bird (pudgy, brownish starling sized bird looking like it has no tail flying awkwardly into a tree top). have heard this repeated sound at this exact location during the last two weeks. Previously the bird left or went quiet before I could get a recording and only called once or twice afterwards. Today it did the same thing but then returned after a time and begin a bout of calling. It is a very loud explosive call and really stops you in your tracks. Possibly an alarm call due to my presence. Mixed woods off of paved road and there are properties with feeders at nearby.
