Observation details
Rare**. First spotted the bird in with a flock of dunlin. Slightly larger than the dunlin with long legs, droopy bill, rusty colored cheek and cap, heavily striated sides and back feathers had white edges. First thought it might of been a long-billed dowitcher due to the white trim on back feathers and the lack of having a scope but was able to get a poor photo to confirm that it was a stilt sandpiper. Then the bird flew over to my side of the mudflat and presented me with some great views and I was able to get better photos.
