Observation details

*rare. The status of Stejneger's Scoter in the Aleutians is still unclear. All historic photos I have seen from Shemya and Near Islands are of White-winged and I have not seen any other documentation of this species in the Aleutians. Male with large protuberance (although not hooked), solid black flanks, more upswept eye mark, reddish pink bill with bright yellow lamellae.
