Observation details
Absolutely incredible experience! We had large flocks of Red Knots the entire time, and they were actually the most numerous shorebird. At one point about 350-400 Red Knots, along with around 100 Ruddy Turnstones, Sanderling, and Semipalmated Sandpipers landed within the roped off section, and we all just froze in place and enjoyed the spectacle for around 10 minutes! Later the two main flocks flushed at the same time and joined up, giving me a chance to get an estimate of 800. I have a few photos and will try to count for a more accurate number. We also saw the following banded birds that we will submit to the bird banding lab: K>5 C>C 38M VA= TN= KHN (Red Flag w/Silver Text) EH= (either a Yellow Flag or a faded and dirty lime green flag) Also found a bird with a dark green flag that appears to have snapped off
