Observation details
we first saw the bird as it flew in to the near shore of the large pond near the runway, pretty hard to miss the bright red body, black-tail and giant black-tipped bill. The godwit almost immediately flushed, likely due to a passing flock of GWTE, and flew off to the south east and out of sight. A quick search of the shoreline in the direction it flew resulted in no bird so we headed back to the pond to check its shoreline, after 15 minutes the godwit flew back in giving great views in flight before settling on the shore of the pond. We watched the bird for another 30 to 40 minutes while it foraged in the shallows looking completely at home.
