Observation details
🔴 **Very Rare. First alerted to by "odd" chatter call coming in proximity to a male Baltimore Oriole. Eventually started doing things closer to a chat repertoire but still distant. We went up the hill to get a better vantage point, but this was useless. As we were heading back it started singing again. We saw a plump bigger than warbler sized bird fly up into a Norway Maple but it was still hidden. Eventually it moved into view, allowing for a perfect instant ID as a Yellow-breasted Chat by obvious yellow throat and breast contrasting to darker mask with a white and black facial pattern set next to noticeably thick bill. It flew back down just as fast as it flew up. Flew back across the trail and starting singing where we were able to capture an audio recording (series of harsh phrases and motifs) and attempted photos but were unsuccessful. Lifer for NRK and New York bird for RGB.
