Bird on left side showing white underparts, dark upperparts, black auricular and crown.
Observation details
**Rare. Juvenile on far southeast corner of lake. Bad photo and poor video taken with scope at distance. County bird for me. The bird spent it's time in shallow water, often circling half way, then switching directions and rotating the other way, rapidly going back and forth and making short flights. It spent most of the time near a fallen tree in the water, sometimes hidden. Mostly white body, head and neck with boldly contrasting black auriculars and dark crown; hint of a warm rust wash to nape. Upperparts largely blackish with two white lines running down back. Bird was distant enough I couldn't see any obvious molt and it was still largely in juvenal plumage. From Red Phalarope by more slender appearance, less thick neck, thinner and longer all black bill, more contrasting face pattern. From Wilson's by structure and face pattern; upperparts.
