Observation details
- Continuing. Still singing occasionally, sometimes for minutes at 12.30 PM. We left a few minutes later as the bird was silent. - Song recording at 17 and 31s. Song type extremely similar/clearly related to song types H and J in Hannah et al. 2020. The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, 132(3) : 598-607. - Two pics shot at that moment by Richard Hall who was watching the bird with us can be seen here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S88311632. Nice pictures of the same bird taken by Yve Morrell are also available here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S88207419. Finally, here is a video by Richard Hall: https://ebird.org/checklist/S88462809. - First seen well but briefly, singing from 3/4 height of a tall willow. Amazing views later as it foraged low (eye level or lower) in an elderberry tree in great vivid light, deliberately walking on thin branches and reaching for bites. Olive nape, light grey complete hood, well defined and sharply contrasted, circular ending on the breast, no black on bib and slightly lighter throat; most conspicuous feature is bold complete white eye-ring; pale yellow bellow, greenish flanks, long under-tail coverts fairly close to tail tip, strong almost ogive-shaped bill with pink base, thick solid pink legs, fairly long, a bit rounded, primaries. - Lifer for both of us. A myth has fallen.
