Media notes
very faint vocalisation pitched at about 1 kHz, a low growl (actually, two growls) given by adult when closely approached by threat (in this case, a human, the recordist). As the stone-curlew family party resident in the accommodation grounds rest in bushes next to pathways that people use they are often confronted with uncomfortable proximity; in these circumstances one of the party will give a low growl, which may be a warning to others or a threatening sound directed at the intruder, or serve both these purposes. Difficult to record as the sound is so soft that background noise overshadows it; it is barely visible on the sonogram, and barely audible on this recording; one growl begins 0:0016, the other at 0:0138
