Adult male Yellow-headed Blackbird giving one buzz song bout while perched. Maine: Penobscot Co., Corinna, south end of Corundel Lake.
Observation details
**RARE; continuing from April 30th | Relocated by Sharon Wilson-Barker along the boardwalk 0.07 miles past the dam. After a ~15 minute wait, at around 9:40, the bird appeared, flying out of the willow thicket and perching in one of the tallest bare trees with other blackbirds. At 10:00 he lifted up and flew directly south, towards the neighborhood it has been frequenting the past few days. Slightly larger than Red-winged Blackbird, with a bigger head, bill, and legs. Pretty dam unmistakable. Warm, deep yellow head surrounding a small black mask and flowing down into the breast, with a blotchy border. Solid black body besides the bright white primary coverts; very obvious in flight and presenting as a fine line when perched.
