Observation details
I first saw this bird at ~7:20 am working along the back shore of the slough near the intersection of TWP Rd 231 and RR 284. At the time this bird stood out to me and I can’t say that the thought of Ruff didn’t cross my mind. I was in a rush to get home at the time so I wasn’t able to spend time studying the bird unfortunately. It wasn’t until the next day (May 4th) that I noticed that it was a Ruff through my photos. It was similar in size to the yellowlegs but appeared to be much lighter with no streaking. Light brown above, white below with orangey legs. Structurally it was quite plump with a fairly long neck and small head. The bill was black, indicating female and fairy stout with slight downcurve. As far as I know it has not been relocated despite a few people looking in the area.
