Observation details
Continuing at 42.94584,- 85.71623...thanks to Caleb for the find...singing a lot and got visual....first heard singing across dirt trail to NE from those coordinates, but was singing the rest of the time where it was originally found the day before. When I got there a bit after 6:30am another birder (Joe) and I thought the bird we heard sounded like a Worm-eating Warbler. It was a dry fast rather metallic sounding song. When I have heard them in Allegan County there are often Chipping Sparrows in the area which sound similar, but we did not see any here and it did not look like the right habitat for them. We tried playing the song which did not lure the bird in. Later when my friends Pete Lewandoski and Tim Maletic showed up I played the call note. Immediately a bird flew in at eye level and I said that's the bird even before I got my binoculars on it. My friends where getting better looks but when it flew up higher I got it with my binoculars and saw the dark stripes on the buffy head. The bird was mostly olive on the back and buffy below. The photo shows the dark line through the eye. I had to lighten the photo up a little so the details where more evident. It continued to sing for most of the time on and off but sang much more in the early hours. We tried playing chickadee calls which brought it in very close and it sang very close, but we never got looks after that first time.
