Observation details
First detected by orange eye shine as it sat in the road (I was only going about 15mph since I was driving with windows down listening specifically for this species!). I initially thought it was a large frog or toad until I got closer and saw it was nightjar! I pulled over, after which it sat for another second or two and then fluttered up, revealing it’s white outer tail feathers. I got out and listened and it had flown off into the brush nearby and was making its “chuck” call, which I recorded. It sang twice, one of which was also recorded.
