Observation details

Spotted in a flooded field amongst a gathering of GRYE and LEYE. When viewing the group, I noticed a potential anomaly in the crowd and snapped some photos. This evening I was able to finally take a closer look and discovered that it was a Wilson's Phalarope! The WIPH was in breeding plumage with a thick black stripe extending from the back of the eye down the neck. I wish I had been able to confirm it sooner (really sorry about that, I had no idea at the time). The field was harshly back-lit, which added to the initial ID difficulty.
