Sabine's Gull
Observation details
There were several large flocks of Sabine's Gulls in the vicinity of the shearwater/gull feeding flocks on the southern margin of Swiftsure Bank, each flock numbering 100 to 400 birds. The Sabine's Gulls were almost all adults - we only saw three or four hatching year birds among all of them. Most birds still had black heads, but a few were molting with fading grayish heads. One of the most memorable sights from the day was when a flock of several hundred Sabine's Gulls would take flight, looking like snowflakes fluttering over the dark water.
