Observation details
Seen as close as 50m. Wings appeared to be a smooth gray-brown color with small white spots. Prominent white eye ring. Breast slightly streaked with brown, but the streaking did not end abruptly as it does on a Pectoral Sandpiper. Brownish spotting and barring narrowly along the sides of the breast extending to the undertail coverts. Legs greenish yellow. Size slightly smaller than the Killdeer and much small than the Greater Yellowlegs that occasionally fed near it. The overall color and pattern of the dorsal spotting, the leg color, the prominent eye ring, and the overall size should eliminate both Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs.
