Common Ringed Plover at Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto on 20 August 2016. Strong white supercilium above broad dark facial markings.
Observation details
Found by Paul Prior in the morning of 20 August. This Common Ringed Plover lacks the yellow orbital ring that is present in all ages of Semipalmated Plover. The facial markings are bolder on Common Ringed Plover. The line on the lores between the eye and the bill is wide and meets the bill at the gape rather than being narrower and just above the gape on Semipalmated Plover. White supercilium above the eye is larger than on Semipalmated Plover. A juvenile Semipalmated Plover was present and the two plovers were often present together showing that the Common Ringed was slightly larger and more robust.
