Observation details
Red-winged Starlings (Onychognathus morio)are usually found in rocky habitats. However, this pair was nesting under the eaves of a thatched building at the Makhadzi Picnic Site. The male was subduing an Elegant Grasshopper (Zonocerus elegans) on a window ledge while making a harsh call, when the female arrived and ate some of the insect. The male then made his more familiar call.
