Observation details
Found singing from the frence posts and power lines around the intersection of Fruitland Mesa Road and W. Black Canyon Road: 38.6745701, -107.6703732. At this point I can't even remember why I happened to stop near this intersection but with my windows down I was lucky enough to notice this funky sounding meadowlark. Fortunately, the bird was extremely vocal and allowed for some decent phone recordings. I spent about 20 minutes with the bird and at no point did it ever give a "typical" Western Meadowlark song, nor did it give any vocalization other than its full song. I did not have a camera with me and wasn't able to distinguish any meaningful physical field marks, such as the extent of white on the tail.
