Media notes
Approximately 1/3 of a very large flock of AWPE on a sandbar in Wascana Lake. A friend told me that when she was at the same location around noon the same day, there had been no pelicans.
Observation details
all but 1 were sleeping and huddled unbelievably close together on a sandbar when i first saw them. My first count was about 60 from the viewing platform so i walked along the path for closer views from different angles. i recounted several times as the birds woke up and a few at a time swam away.
