Media notes
Spontaneous song of a N. Saw-whet Owl in S. Fork, Cave Creek Canyon on a calm, cool, starlit, moonless evening. Background noise is footsteps of folks trying to see the bird. The bird was only glimpsed, but the recording is distinctive. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
I had been wanting to record one of the N. Saw-whets that folks have been reporting in Cave Creek Canyon near Sunny Flat Campground...in part to document this species to be singing persistently at a surprisingly low elevation. With Dave Jasper's help, we encountered a singing bird. Recording attached. Probably a male, but not really known.
