Media notes

Unsolicited grunt series. Hard to hear over a singing (also unsolicited) Sora.

Observation details

Two birds gave grunt series in response to VIRA playback at 27.9149, -81.9534, west of the trail. Series descended in pitch toward the end, and individual barks in the series were more metallic and less "grunt-y" than King Rail. (I'm not 100% sure this is a reliable way to separate the two species, but a brief perusal of PetersonBirdSounds.com seems to support that hypothesis.) I also tried some KIRA playback, which produced no response.

Additional species

  • Sora Porzana carolina
  • Swamp Sparrow Melospiza georgiana
